About
Nord Pas-de-Calais
| This is an area which many of us have driven through but never really explored. It is ideally situated between the UK, Belgium and the rest of France. Its major city is Lille, the crossroads of the TGV to Paris, Brussels and London. It is real France close to home. The area is rural without being isolated and hosts many pretty market towns and villages such as Hesdin, St Omer, Le Touquet and Montreuil. The area offers many activities from kite surfing, wind surfing, boating, walking, horse riding through to fishing. Being a coastal region, there is plenty of wonderful fresh sea food on offer. The Cote D'Opale coast offers long wide sandy beaches backed by high cliffs. The countryside is carved by beautiful river valleys similar to the south coast of the UK. The East of the region is known as the Flanders and is similar to the English Fenlands. Access is good with excellent road and TGV fast trains to most of Europe, including the Uk. |
