About
Limousin
| Limousin is often referred to as the lake district of France. The countryside offers many lakes, rivers, forests and lush rolling green hills. The Limousin region, on the western edges of the Massif Central, attracts visitors in search of unspoiled countryside. The area is made up by the three departments of Haute-Vienne, Creuse and Correze. The main industry of the region is farming and as a result the lifestyle reflects this. Green hills, meandering streams & rivers, empty country roads and hilltop villages are common sites in this part of France. The region typically becomes hillier as you move from east to west and then south. The Correze is the most southerly department and borders the Dordogne. It has a chocolate box feel like its neighbour. Activities on offer include walking, horse riding, hunting, fishing, swimming and boating in some of the regions great lakes such as Lac de Vassiviere. The area offers an appealing climate. There are 4 seasons with winters similar to the south coast of the UK, warm springs, hot summers and warm autumns. Access to the area is good. There are many flights from the UK and parts of Ireland into Limoges, the capital city in the heart of the region. You can also use Poitiers airport to access the north of the region. There are also trains into Limoges and as well the area has good motorway access. |
